About this deal

When you are cleaning sponges, make sure to put the bio media trays inside the aquarium itself. This is to preserve the beneficial bacteria in these bio-media trays while you dry off your sponges. It runs constantly and we’ve heard many reports that you can rely on and trust the monitoring system that comes with the filter. This is a testament to the overall quality of the components that Fluval puts in their products. Here’s an interesting fact, none of my regular aquariums are big enough for an FX6. My biggest tanks are 55 gallons (208 liters). You could definitely make an FX6 work on a 55 gallon, if your fish thrive in a high flow environment, like hillstream loaches. I waited four months before going for a full servicing session. However, I do keep them in good shape by doing scheduled water changes and substrate vacuuming to remove excess waste and detritus weekly. This scheduled tank maintenance helps in prolonging the filter cleaning schedule. If you see any gunk on your bio media, you have waited too long to clean the filter. This can help you determine an appropriate cleaning schedule for your FX6 filter. If you use carbon, you will have to clean the filter every month.

You would think that with the impressive output that theFluval FX6 canister filterbrings to the table there would be some additional noise right? You just made an investment into a product that you want to get value out of. How awful would it be to mess something up and break it on day 1? If in doubt go to nearest glass merchants and grab some scrap or buy some small pieces to practice on

For mechanical filtration, in addition to the sponges that sit on the outside of the media trays, fine polishing pads or polyfill will serve you well in the top tray. This media will help prevent the rest of the media in your FX6 canister filter from getting clogged by debris. Alternately you can remove the bottom bio foam pad and add even more biological media to this top tray.

In terms of literal power, the FX6 uses around 43 watts of power to run continuously. This is a little high in comparison to some other canister filters, but in the grand scheme of things it’s pretty reasonable for the filtration ability and convenience of using the filter. The canister should be lighter now. You can shut off the water exchange valve, remove the inlet valve, and take out the canister FX6 filter from underneath the tank.Noice is one of the most overlooked factors to aquarium products, but we place a premium on the ability for gear to run quietly. The first thing you need to do is shut off your aqua stop valves. It is recommended to shut off the inlet valve before shutting off the outlet valve. Once you have closed the valves, you will unplug your FX6 from the power source. Definitely, the FX6 has the highest GPH and largest media capacity of all the canister filters I’ve tested. If you’re looking for something that can handle a huge tank and a lot of fish, I don’t know of another canister that’s in the same league as this one. Make your way through the different bio trays, and get to the bottom tray where you will find charcoal padding or any chemical media you were using depending upon your preferences. It is recommended to change these depending on their respective state. If they are too dirty or greasy, toss them in the trash and get clean replacements. In general, the Fluval FX6 is a very quiet filter. However, if you hear noises coming from your Fluval it may be for the following reasons;

Like the FX5, Fluval FX6 also features Smart Pump Technology, an advanced technological feature that continually monitors the pump, constantly measuring impeller speed and force to ensure powerful output and energy efficiency. It also manages the filter’s self-starting feature and evacuates air that may enter or build up within the filtration system. On a 12-hour cycle, the pump will pause and allow trapped air to escape, ensuring the best filtration efficiency at all times. I’ve recently switched all the bio media in my FX6 to nothing but Pot Scrubbers! Yes you read that right. As with most fish tank equipment noise is one of the most common complaints and the FX6 is no different. I love all of the huge, reusable mechanical filter media that comes with this filter. There are several different sponges, of different coarseness levels, throughout the baskets. In my opinion, there is no need to add disposable filter floss to this setup.It also produces fewer vibrations than conventional canisters and is really silent due to rubber feet that help decrease vibrations. Vibration is a typical issue with external canister filters, which is not only an obnoxious noise but is also harmful to your fish. Self-starting – just add water, plug in and Smart Pump™ will take over. Trapped air auto-evacuated every 12 hours to ensure maximum efficiency The first thing you need to know is that every tank with an FX6 is different. There is more than one model of Fluval Canister Filter, and each one comes with equally unique maintenance requirements. OK, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but it is a pretty darn big instruction manual. I HIGHLY recommend that you read the ENTIRE manual before you start trying to do the actual installation.

So, great biomedia capacity, plus great mechanical filtration, all with an ultra-quiet but really powerful motor. That’s pretty damn perfect in my boat! Your hoses and tubes can get clogged with debris over time so be sure to clean them out at least 3 times a year. Also make sure your hoses are not kinked, bent or looping. O-RINGS Notification of Faulty Goods: Customers must notify the store within 7 working days if they receive faulty goods. This notification should be made as soon as possible.

To shop this in factories they have a coolant running over the bit, these isn't viable on a tank so the best way I have found is the fill the bit with loose ice (the White crap that builds up in your freezer) it works a treat I've drilled dozens of holes that way Sometimes after setup, you may not be getting the desired flow rate or notice that you’re FX6 has low flow. It’s a new setup – Sometimes the self-purging feature takes time. Wait up to 48hours to allow the purging to complete.
